At Mellow Post we have always felt that constantly tracking you and selling your data by the likes of Facebook and Twitter (now X) and other social media sites is too high a price to pay for what they offer. It is time for an open site where people can feel free to post without being trolled by people who should (but don't seem to) know better.

You can think of Mellow Post as your own private site. Just you, the friends you have invited, and anyone who has invited you. Free to post photos and messages without being bombarded by ads and posts from people you don't know.

We make the following promises to you:

Mellow Post was created in the UK and is hosted on fast secure servers also in the UK.
In keeping with current thoughts and potential changes in legislation, you will need to be over 16 years of age to register an account.
No adult, violent or political material is allowed on the site.
We will never accept any paid for content in feeds
Only people who are invited can join the site
Only you can see your friends list
You can allow your friends to see your friends list if you wish (in settings). This will only give limited access to your friends but will allow your friends to be able to send friend requests to your other friends.
If you invite someone who is already a member, they will be offered the option to accept you as a friend.
There will be no advertising in the post feeds
(You will only see posts from your friends in your feed)
We will never, in any way track you
(We may record IP addresses anonymously for statistical and safety purposes only)
Personal data (your email address and full name) are encrypted when stored
No data is shared with any third party
We will listen if you have an idea or a problem
And we will not use AI in our site to push things at you - it is people powered, not computer powered
When you post something it will only be viewable by your friends. You can choose if comments are allowed on a post.

How Will Mellow Post Make Any Money?

Some of you will remember how WhatsApp started by offering the first year for free, then a $1 per year fee from then on. Well, Mellow Post is following the same path. It is completely free to use for 1 year from when you register, and anyone registering in these early days will keep free access for life. For those who register later, once their trial year is over, if you wish to continue using it there will be a tiny fee of £1 per year. We think this is a fair way to go. £1 per year is so small that you will hardly notice it, but it will help to fund development and keep the whole project free of adverts for ever. But earlybirds will get it free for life.

The Mellow Post project was an idea to prove that even something like a social media site can be constructed, in a matter of just a few months, without the massive amounts of money poured in by the likes of Meta. And it is proving that you don't have to be bombarded with adverts all the time to fund these massive costs.

Once you have registered (which is free of course) then Mellow Post will be the top entry in your friends list and you are welcome to send us any questions or ideas for improvements that you might have, using the message option. We are a small concern so please be patient while waiting for an answer.

You will only see posts that you have made and posts made by your friends. In addition, you can choose to follow pages where you will be able to see posts made there but the owner of the page will not see your posts. The only people who can see your posts are your friends who you have invited or who have invited you.

Currently no. At this time there is a lot of activity in the UK and other parliaments to try to force sites such as this to add 'backdoors' to allow them to see what is being said in the messages. Mellow Post is intended for families and friends who simply want to keep in touch and show photos and other things they are interested in. It is not intended to be used for anything that needs to be hidden.

Again, these are not currently encrypted. The only people who will see them are friends who you have invited.

No. when you register you will choose a unique User Name and this is what others will see. Your name and email address are encrypted before being saved and are only used by us to communicate with you if needed and to forward any private messages you may receive. When you invite someone to join Mellow Post, the invitation will come from Mellow Post but your User Name and your Email Address will be in the email. This should not be a problem if they are your friend, and it helps to stop unwanted fake friends. When you message through the site, to your friends or to us at Mellow Post, only your User Name is shown. A copy of the message is also emailed from the system to the recipient's email address.

Finding a name for any site is always difficult, especially when the are literally millions of domain names that hosting registrars are just sitting on, in the hopes that they can sell them at a profit in the future. Mellow Post was chosen because it says what it does. Mellow because it is meant to be calm and mellow, and Post because that is what you do.

Like Facebook, Mellow Post needs the internet to work - that is where your posts and pictures are stored. So an App would simply add clutter to your mobile phone while not giving you any additional features. The only real reason most social media sites have an app is so they can track you, something we will never do. You can easily add a link to your home page on a smartphone using most browsers by clicking on the three dots in the top right hand corner and selecting "Add to home screen". On some browsers you will find the Add to home screen option in the menu.

We will keep all your data for at least 30 days to give you a chance to subscribe, but it will not be visible to anyone. Obviously, we hope that at just £1 for a whole year, you will find it a small price to pay to avoid being tracked and followed. But it will be entirely up to you of course.
